May 16, 2001
MILWAUKEE-UWM women's basketball coach Sandy Botham has received an extension on her contract through the 2004-05 season, Athletics Director Bud Haidet announced today. Botham was named Midwestern Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year this past year after her Panthers were co-champions of the regular season. UWM went on to win the MCC Championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. After losing to Duke in the first round, the Panthers ended their dream season with a 19-11 record "Everything I envisioned to happen for our program has happened," Botham said. "But we definitely are not done yet, and I am very excited for the opportunity to take it to another level."
Also winning MCC Coach of the Year in her first season in 1996, Botham holds a 77-63 career record at UWM entering next season. She returns eight Panthers from last year's team.
