Von Wald, Schaffeld Earn MCC Honors
March 9 MILWAUKEE - - Freshman Corrin Von Wald (Hudson, Wis.-Hudson) and junior Daryl Schaffeld (Palatine, Ill.-Fremd) each received nods to Midwestern Collegiate Conference postseason teams. Unfortunately, that did not save the Panthers, who fell in the quarterfinals to Cleveland State, 74-61. Von Wald was named to the league's all-newcomer and all-defensive teams. Schaffeld was named to the all-MCC second team. In Thursday's contest, the Panthers never led in the game and trailed by as many as 23 points in the second half. CSU started the second half on an 11-0 run that put the Vikings in control. The Panthers rallied and cut the deficit to seven points with 1:28 to play, but CSU hit four of six free throws down the stretch to secure the victory. Kelly Lubbers (Chanhassen, Minn.-Chaska) led the Panthers with 16 points. Von Wald added 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds. The loss ends UWM's season at 11-16 overall, 7-7 in the MCC.
