Women's Basketball Earns Second Seed for MCC Tournament

Panthers to play Cleveland State on Thursday

MILWAUKEE- The UWM women's basketball team will take its highest-ever seed into the Midwestern Collegiate Conference Tournament, held this week in Detroit.

UWM (16-11, 10-4 MCC) earned the second seed and will face # 7 Cleveland State (13-14, 5-9 MCC) on Thursday at 5:30 EST at Calihan Hall. The semifinals will be held on Friday and the championship game is Saturday.

The Panthers swept the Vikings during the regular season, posting a 70-69 win in Cleveland on Jan. 13 and a 87-66 win at the Klotsche Center on Feb. 12.

All of UWM's MCC Tournament games will be broadcast live on WEMP AM 1250. The broadcast will also be available worldwide via the internet at uwmpanthers.com.

The Panthers locked up the second seed when they defeated Butler, 71-57, on Thursday.

Sophomore Corrin Von Wald (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) led the Panther attack with the fourth double-double of her career and the second in as many games. She had 14 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Freshman guard Jessica Wilhite (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) added 11 points off the bench, including eight in the second half. Senior center Kelly Lubbers (Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) added 10 points and three boards of her own against the Bulldogs.

UWM concluded the regular season with a 75-68 win over Wright State on Saturday. On senior day, senior Daryl Schaffeld (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) tied for team honors with 16 points, including four three-pointers. She also passed for a team-best five assists.

Junior Nicole Luchsinger (Janesville, Wis./Parker) also scored 16 points in the game and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.
