Three Panthers Named To All-State Team

Edwards heads Inside Wisconsin Sports honor roll

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (March 3, 2008) - Three members of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball team were named All-State by Inside Wisconsin Sports Magazine, the publication announced in its April 2008 issue.

Junior Traci Edwards heads the list, earning All-State First Team honors. Senior Aubri Rote earned a place on the second team, while junior Turquoise McCain was selected as honorable mention.

Edwards currently leads the Horizon League in both scoring, at 20.4 points per game, and rebounding, with 10.0 rebounds per game. She has topped 20 points nine times this season, including a pair of 30-plus efforts and a school-record 45 points at Loyola Feb. 21. She has also set school records for free throws in a game (20), season (180) and career (490) over the course of her junior campaign, while moving into second place in Milwaukee's Division I history in points and rebounds.

Rote has seen action in all 27 games this season for the Panthers, making 21 starts. She is second on the team in scoring at 9.2 points per game, but leads the team with 47 three-pointers. She is also third in rebounding at 3.9 per game and assists at 1.9 per contest.

Before a foot injury sidelined her this past weekend in Green Bay, McCain had been the only UWM player to start every game this season. She has been third on the team in scoring for much of the year and is currently third at 6.8 points per game. She is also second with 4.1 rebounds per contest.

Milwaukee is back in action this week, hosting a pair of league contests to close out the 2007-08 regular season. Detroit visits the Klotsche Center Thursday, before Wright State comes to town for a Saturday match-up.
