MILWAUKEE - Post-game quotes from UWM's Horizon League Quarterfinal victory over UIC, 72-59:

MARIA VIALL
Milwaukee center
22 points, 19 rebounds (ties Horizon League Tournament single-game rebounding record)
Two-time Horizon League Player of the Year

"It's one and done for every team. We've come out flat these past two years. You've got to play every game like it's your last, especially me, because it is."

SANDY BOTHAM
Milwaukee head coach

"We played with great balance. We were poised and played with confidence."

"We have struggled in the past, but we need to take it one game at a time. We're not going to change anything."

On Viall's record-tying night:

"She towers over people. She's playing very strong."

On the team's 27 turnovers:

"We've started taking care of the basketball at the end of the season, but tonight we lost our focus a little bit."

LISA RYCKBOSCH
UIC head coach

"I feel like we regressed as a team heading into the end of the season."

"We played like an inexperienced basketball team."

POST-GAME NOTES

  • Maria Viall's record-tying 19 rebounds equaled the single-game Horizon League tournament mark established by Audra Cook of Cleveland State (vs. UW-Green Bay, 3/6/1999). It was also a new season-high for Maria, besting her previous high of 18 against IPFW Feb. 12.
  • Milwaukee is now 5-7 all-time in the Horizon League tournament. The Panthers advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2001 after holding the No. 2 seed and being upset in the quarterfinals each of the last two seasons.
  • With Chrissy Dizon's three-pointer at the 1:53 mark, UIC broke its school record for three-point field goals made in a season. With seven threes on the evening, the Flames would finish the night with 160 three-pointers made, eclipsing the old mark of 157.
