Panthers To Host Remainder Of Horizon League Tournament

Top-seeded Milwaukee plays Butler Sunday at noon in semifinals

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (March 3, 2006) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will host the semifinals and championship game of the 2006 Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship this weekend at the Klotsche Center.

Milwaukee plays Butler Sunday in the first semifinal at noon, with UW-Green Bay and UIC squaring off at approximately 2:30 p.m. The winners then meet in the Horizon League Championship game Monday at 3 p.m.

Fans can purchase their tickets beginning Monday morning through all Milwaukee-area Ticket Master outlets, by phone at 414-276-4545 or online at ticketmaster.com. Reserved tickets are $12, while general admission tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and children, and $5 for students of a league school with a valid student ID.

Students can purchase their tickets through the UWM Ticket Office, or at distribution points in the UWM Union or Sandburg Hall.

Also, Horizon League regular-season champion t-shirts will be given away to UWM students at the door sunday beginning at 11 a.m.

The top-seeded Panthers defeated eighth-seed Loyola, 76-56, Thursday night in its quarterfinal contest. No. 7 Youngstown State, which held hosting rights for the remainder of the tourney, fell at second-seeded UW-Green Bay, 63-53, in Green Bay, relinquishing rights to the highest remaining seed.

Each of the top four seeds in the tournament HAVE advanced to the semifinals. Along with UWM and UWGB, third-seeded UIC defeated No. 6 Wright State in overtime, 80-78, Thursday night in Chicago. Butler, which is seeded fourth, won its quarterfinal game Wednesday, defeating No. 5 Detroit, 58-45.

The remainder of the tournament will be televised live, with the semifinals being broadcast regionally and the championship game carried live on ESPNU. Both semifinal contests will be carried live in Milwaukee on WMLW, channel 7 on Time Warner Cable and channel 41 over the air.
