Milwaukee Head Coach Sandy Botham

On the Panthers' performance
"I thought we competed well tonight. I thought we had great looks that we did not finish and there was a stretch where we did not handle the press well. There are a lot of good things that we can take from this game."

On Illinois
"With 10 minutes left, I still felt really good about our chances. We would cut into the lead but they would get the stop they needed. Credit to Illinois. They are athletic, they are big and their defense looked good. The press rattled us a bit and took us out of our game plan."

On team defense
"Defensively, we did a lot of good things tonight. For us to have that strong of team defense this early in the season was great and something we can build on.

On UWM getting better as the game went on
"Offensively, they forced us into quick shots and we didn't get into the offensive flow early. In the second half, we worked some kinks out and I thought we played much better. Now we just have to put the two together. I felt good about our team's competitiveness and fight. We can take a lot of positives from this.

On playing playing a major conference team early in the season
"This was a great experience for our players and shows us that we can play at a high level. It was good to have this kind of competition early. It exposes things we need to get better at and what we can build on. But, our players never quit and that is a beautiful thing."
