Travis Brewster, formerly an assistant at the University of North Dakota, has joined the Panther staff and begins his first season. Brewster will work with the UWM post players and handle opponent scouting duties. "We are thrilled about Travis joining our staff. He brings a wealth of experience at the Division II level," UWM head coach Sandy Botham said. "Travis has that experience of working under a great coach at a great program and he will bring that to UWM. He also has a very positive and contagious personality that will be a great asset to our team." Brewster had been an aide with the Fighting Sioux women's program for the last four seasons, helping to guide the squad to a 34-1 record last season and 112-19 mark during his tenure. In that time, UND featured five All-Americans and three more Academic All-Americans, while 14 players were selected to the all-conference teams. "This is a great opportunity for me, personally, and for my family. I have the chance to learn from another great coach at another strong university," Brewster said. "I'm really looking forward to working with everyone on staff here and the people in this athletic department. " Brewster broke into coaching as a men's assistant coach, first at Iowa Lakes Community College for three seasons and then one year with the North Dakota men's program. He coached at ILCC from 1998-2001, helping the Lakers to a 24-7 record in 1998-99 and 27-8 in 1999-00. Brewster then became a graduate assistant with the Fighting Sioux for the 2001-02 season before joining the women's program the next season. A native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Brewster was a two-year letterwinner at Charleston Southern University, earning team Defensive MVP honors and serving as a team captain before graduating in 1994 with a degree in speech and drama. He began his collegiate career at Iowa Lakes Community College where he earned all-region honors on the court. "He has great knowledge and is a great teacher of the game," Botham said. "We are excited about having our first true post position coach. His biggest responsibility will be working with our post players and I think he will come in and help our post players excel and meet their potential." Brewster resides in Milwaukee, with his wife, Becky, and their three children--Drake (8), Reganne (6) and Kaid (3).
