MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Sept. 26, 2007) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's cross country teams will look to shake off the rust of a three-week lay-off this weekend when they return to action at the Roy Griak Invitational Saturday in Minneapolis.

The men's race is expected to start at 12:10 p.m. with the women's race to follow at 12:55 p.m.

The Roy Griak Invitational is a national-length meet hosted by the University of Minnesota. The meet usually draws some of the top teams in the country and features multiple collegiate races and races for high school teams.

The Panthers were last in action at the Valparaiso Invitational, with both squads taking third in league-heavy fields. The women were third among eight teams, topping league foes Valparaiso (fourth), Wright State (sixth), Green Bay (seventh) and Cleveland State (eighth).

Milwaukee's men were third in the six-team field and second among the four league schools competing. They trailed only host Valpo in second. Wright State was fourth and Green Bay sixth.

Senior Nick Hawley had the best day, taking third in the men's race, just 19 seconds of the lead pace. He went on to be named the Horizon League Athlete of the Week for his efforts. On the women's side, senior Holly Nearman placed fifth in her 2007 debut.

UWM takes another two weeks off before splitting up for a pair of meets Saturday, Oct. 13. Some Panthers will head to the NCAA Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. The remainder of the men's and women's teams will head to Kenosha, Wis., for the Parkside Invitational.
