Panther Men Take 18th At Great Lakes Regional
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (Nov. 11, 2006) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's cross country team capped its 2006 season with an 18th-place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet, Saturday afternoon in Bowling Green. The Panthers scored 591 points for its place in the 31-team field. Wisconsin won the team competition with 52 points, half as many as Notre Dame in second place. Junior Nick Hawley paced Milwaukee, taking 82nd place with a time of 33:07.38 on the 10,000m course. Senior Justin Gorman also finished among the top 100, taking 94th in 33:27.74. Freshman Malachi Cate placed 118th in his first regional meet, while fellow rookies Ryan Mleziva in 141st and Eric Pitt in 152nd place also scored. Cate ran a time of 34:02.41, while Mleziva crossed the line in 34:34.62 and Pitt in 34:52.95. Rounding out the UWM competitors was freshmen Mike Sorenson and Matt Dreifke. Sorenson was 172nd in 35:27.76 and Dreifke was 182nd in 35:51.87.
