Panther Men Take Fourth At League Championships
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Oct. 28, 2006) - Junior Nick Hawley took 10th and senior Justin Gorman finished just out of all-league consideration in 16th to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the Horizon League Championship Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis. The Panthers scored 108 points in finishing fourth for the seventh time in the last eight seasons. Meanwhile, Butler took top honors with just 18 points and UIC and Loyola tied for second with 69. Hawley earned all-league second team honors with his 10th place finish, crossing the line in 26:14.35. Gorman was 16th, placing just outside the top 14 that receive all-league honors, and posted a time of 27:04.55. Freshmen rounded out the Milwaukee top seven, with the last three scoring runners each finishing inside the top 33. Malachi Cate led the way, taking 30th in 27:33.10 just ahead of Ryan Mleziva in 31st (27:35.55). Eric Pitt completed the scorers, finishing 33rd in 27:42.25. Matt Dreifke and Mike Sorenson also finished in UWM's first seven, with Dreifke finishing 30th with a time of 27:45.05. Sorenson took 37th in 27:48.65. Butler's Scott Overall won the men's race, posting a time of 24:53.70. Milwaukee will look to extend its season Nov. 11 at the NCAA Regional in Bowling Green, Ohio. The Panthers will look to qualify for the NCAA Championships Nov. 20 in Terre Haute, Ind.
