Panther Men Take Eighth At League Championships
VALPARAISO, Ind. (Oct. 27, 2007) - Sophomore Matt Dreifke finished 31st to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's cross country team at the 2007 Horizon League Championships Saturday afternoon. The Panthers scored 182 points to take eighth on the day. Butler swept the top five places to win the meet by 85 points over second-place Loyola (100 points). Youngstown State took third with 101 points and Detroit edged host Valparaiso for fourth by one point (111-112). Wright State (123 points) was sixth, UIC seventh (127) and Green Bay rounded out the field in ninth (242). Dreifke ran a time of 27:28 to pace three UWM runners between the 31st and 34th places. Sophomore Eric Pitt was 33rd in 27:38, just one second ahead of freshman Andrew Fox in 34th with a time of 27:39. Sophomore Ryan Mleziva ran a time of 27:52 to take 41st and sophomore Jason Axt placed 43rd in 27:58 as the last Panther scorer. Junior Nick Hawley, Milwaukee's leadig runner all year, did not finish the race due to an injury. The Panthers' top seven was completed by sophomore Mike Sorenson and junior Nick Porter. Sorenson was 48th in 28:08,while Porter was 58th in 28:34.
