Milwaukee Takes Fourth At Falcon Invitational
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (Oct. 14, 2006) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's cross country took fourth place at the Falcon Invitational Saturday afternoon in Bowling Green, Ohio, led by junior Nick Hawley in eighth place and two more runners among the top 30. Milwaukee finished the day with 120 points, while Akron took first in the 13-team field with 67. Three more Horizon League teams competed at the meet, led by Youngstown State in fifth. Hawley, who also led the Panthers in their last meet four weeks ago, ran a season-best time of 26:01.73. Senior Justin Gorman finished 21st in 26:27.91, while freshman Malachi Cate was UWM's third finisher in 29th place with a time of 26:38.99. Freshmen Ryan Mleziva and Matt Dreifke also scored in the meet, taking 43rd and 55th. Mleziva ran a time of 26:55.50 for 43rd, while Dreifke was 55th in 27:09.87. Bowling Green's Eddie Kipchoge won the meet, crossing the line in 24:40.33. The Panthers ran five more runners, led by freshmen Eric Pitt in 56th place (27:10.67) and Mike Sorenson in 59th (27:12.52). Junior Jeremy Majors ran a time of 27:40.70 for 83rd, sophomore Nick Porter 27:55.13 for 96th and junior R.J. Pire 28:00.28 for 100th. This was the final tuneup for the Panthers before the Horizon League Championship Oct. 28 in Indianapolis, Ind.
