Panther Men Take 22nd At Griak Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Sept. 29, 2007) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's cross country team took 22nd place at the Roy Griak Invitational Saturday afternoon in Minneapolis.

Northern Arizona took first place in the team standings among the 23 teams competing, having runners take first and second in the race.

Senior Nick Hawley led the way, taking 122nd with a time of 27:03, just seconds ahead of sophomore teammate Ryan Mleziva (27:11) in 126th. Three Panthers were counted in the 143rd-145th places with a fourth runner taking 147th. Sophomore Eric Pitt led that contingent with a time of 28:10. Sophomore Mike Sorenson ran a time of 28:11 for 144th and freshman Andrew Fox was 145th in 28:14 to round out the scoring runners.

Sophomore Nick Porter was 147th in 28:16 and sophomore Matt Dreifke was the team's seventh runner in 150th place, finishing in 28:39.

UWM takes two weeks off before splitting up for a pair of meets Saturday, Oct. 13. Some Panthers will head to the NCAA Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute,Ind. The remainder of the team will head to Kenosha, Wis., for the Parkside Invitational.
