Panthers Take Fourth At Illini Challenge
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Sept. 15, 2006) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's track and field team finished fourth at the Illini Challenge, Friday evening in Champaign, Ill. The Panthers tallied 94 points, while host Illinois took top honors with a perfect score of 15. Junior Nick Hawley led the way with a 14th-place finish. He crossed the line in 26:33. Freshman Mike Sorenson was the next Panther finisher, taking 18th in 26:59. Senior Justin Gorman and freshman Ryan Mlevia finished together in 21st and 22nd places, with Gorman running a time of 27:21 and Mlevia 27:23. Freshman Eric Pitt rounded out the scorers with 24th-place showing, completing the meet in 27:42. UIC and Illinois State also competed at the meet, with the Flames taking second with 63rd. The Redbirds placed third with 69. Freshman Matt Dreifke and sophomore Nick Porter completed Milwaukee's top seven. Dreifke was 26th in 27:55 and Porter 28th in 28:11. The Panthers have next weekend off before returning to action at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational, Sept. 30, in Chicago, Ill.
