Panthers Take Second At Bradley InvitationalSept. 9, 2005
PEORIA, Ill. - Junior Ben Uphoff led the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's cross country team to a second-place finish among Division I schools at the Bradley Invitational, Friday evening in Peoria. Uphoff placed second among Division I runners to lead the Panthers. The New London, Wis., native finished the course with a time of 25:32.39 and sixth overall as the team's top finisher. Senior Nate Weiland made his season debut and was the second UWM runner to cross the line. He took 14th in 26:21.95. Sophomore Nick Hawley took 25th with a time of 26:41.99, seconds ahead of junior Justin Gorman in 32nd (26:50.09). Sophomore RJ Pire rounded out the scorers, placing 38th in 27:04.93. Marquette topped the five Division I schools with 33 points, just ahead of UWM with 89. Host Bradley was third with 69 points, St. Louis took fourth with 94 and Eastern Illinois rounded out the field with 127. Also running at the meet was freshmen Nick Porter and Steve Vesbach. Porter finished 44th in 27:10.30, while Vesbach was 51st in 27:19.61. Milwaukee gets its first taste of national competition, competing next at the Roy Griak Invitational, Sept. 24, in Minneapolis, Minn. The Griak Invitational annually draws some of the top teams in the nation, and is split up into several races.
