Panther Men Sign Four To NLIs

Corfeld adds local talent for 2007-08 season

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (June 11, 2007) - Four local track and field standouts have signed National Letters of Intent to enroll at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and join the men's track and field team in the fall, head coach Pete Corfeld announced today.

Cory Yttre of Brookfield, Wis., Jared Foerch of Germantown, Wis., Matthew Jensen of Sauk Prairie, Wis., and Ben Borton of Waukesha, Wis., will join the Panther men beginning in 2007-08.

Yttre is coming off a state championship in the 400m earlier this month for Brookfield East High School. He also placed third in the 200m this season after competing at the state meet all four years. As a junior, he placed fourth in the 400m and was ninth with the 4x400m relay. This season he ran the eighth-fastest 400m time in state history (47.92).

"With (senior Jeremy) Majors graduating, Cory will come in and add depth in the areas we'll need help," Corfeld said. "Cory can run anywhere from 100 to 800m. Indoors, he had the top 400m time in the state and recently he ran a top-50 high school time in the 200m (21.74) in state history. He continues to improve in the 400m where he ran a top-10 state time and won a state title."

Foerch will be the latest Germantown High School product to join the Panthers, following current sophomore standout Adam Schleis and two-time league pole vault champion Jeremiah Snyder. Foerch was runner-up to Yttre at this year's Wisconsin state meet in the 400m. He also helped his 4x400m relay team to a second-straight title after a runner-up finish his sophomore year. He runs primarily in the 200m and 400m, both events he competed in at state this season. He took sixth in the 200m.

"Jared comes from a talented program at Germantown with a strong 400m and 4x400m relay tradition," Corfeld said. "They have had a lot of success with him there. We expect that success to continue for him at UWM."

Jensen is coming off a state championship in the discus throw this season for Sauk Prairie High School. He will be the newest member of a Panther throwing corps which experienced its most successful season ever. Jensen had the 23rd-best discus throw in state history this season.

"With as far at Matthew threw this year in winning the state title and earlier when he had one of the best throws in state history, it shows he is a technician," Corfeld said. "We're confident he should be able to move up to the college implements and be successful. With (Nick Gretz and Nick Wichert) graduating, he will have some big shoes to fill."

Borton is a two-time state qualifier in cross country from Waukesha South High School. His best finish came as a sophomore, when he placed 65th and helped South to a seventh-place state finish.

"Ben will be a good distance runner for us," Corfeld said. "He will come in here and shore up our cross country troops."
