MILWAUKEE, Wis. (May 1, 2008) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's track and field team heads to the Redbird Classic in Normal, Ill., Saturday for its final tune-up before the Horizon League Championships May 8-9 in Youngstown, Ohio.

The Panthers are in search of a fifth-straight league outdoor championship and 10th-straight title overall.

Milwaukee is coming off a busy weekend which saw Panthers compete at three different meets in Wisconsin and Iowa. UWM was represented at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, Thursday through Saturday, at the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa, Friday, and at the Marquette Invitational Saturday in Milwaukee.

Junior Adam Schleis was the lone Panther that competed at the Janvrin Open due to rain, but he ran a time of 14.76 in taking third in the 110m hurdles. He also ran with the 4x100m relay at Drake, which qualified for the finals of the event and took sixth. Senior Justin Bohler threatened his own school record in the decathlon for much of the first two days, but fell just 95 points shy with 6,741 while finishing ninth.

Senior Larry Ehrhorn, meanwhile, led seven top-five finishers at the Marquette Invite, taking second in the shot put. Sophomores Quinn Mongoven and Josh Zill and freshman Andrew Manuel added two top-five showings apiece.

UWM looks in good shape for next week's league meet, as it will look to build on eight events where it leads the league and eight that it stands second. Also, the Panthers are first and second in three events.

The league championships actually get started this week with the multi-events in Indianapolis. Despite leading the league, Bohler will not compete in the multi-events, instead competing in many of the events that make up the multi's. He is second in the league in the 110m hurdles, behind Schleis, second in the javelin and third in the long jump.

Schleis, while leading the 110m hurdles, also leads in the long jump--both events he won in 2006. He also won the hurdles and took second in the long jump last season. The jumps continue to be a strong area, as Schleis and Bohler are apart of five Panthers in the top seven of the long jump. In the triple jump, five-time (indoor and outdoor) champion Darren Cole leads the league with his regional-qualifying performance. Zill, who is fourth in the 110m hurdles, is second to Cole.

Sophomores Tyler Bucholz and Isaiah Adams figure prominently in the sprints and relays. Bucholz is second in the 100m and 400m, while leading the 200m. Adams is second in the 200m and third in the 100m and 400m. The pair are also half of the league-leading 4x100m and 4x400m relays.

Rounding out the group of league leaders is sophomore Quinn Mongoven in the high jump, while junior Sean Jaehnig is second in the pole vault. Mongoven is the defending league high jump champ and has won the event indoors in each of his first two seasons.
