Panthers Send Two To Alex Wilson Invitational

Bucholz, Mongoven looking to qualify for NCAA Championships

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (March 6, 2008) - Sophomores Tyler Bucholz and Quinn Mongoven are going to represent the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's track and field team at the Alex Wilson Invitational this weekend in South Bend, Ind.

Both Panthers will compete Saturday, with Mongoven beginning the high jump at 11 a.m. central time, while Bucholz will run in the 400m at 11:30 a.m. The duo will attend the last chance qualifier in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Championships March 14-15 in Fayetteville, Ark.

The provisional mark for the high jump is 2.14m (7-0 1/4), while the automatic mark is 2.24m (7-4 1/4). In the 400m, the provisional time is 47.25 and the automatic time is 46.15. Only six athletes have met the automatic qualifiers in the nation this season, with four doing so in the 400m and two in the high jump.

Bucholz is coming off a standout performance at the Horizon League Championships last weekend. He won three individual league titles, ran with a first-place relay and broke two school and league records, all on the second day. In the 400m, he ran a time of 47.61 to eclipse the school and league record. Bucholz also teamed with the 4x400m relay to break a school and league mark with a time of 3:16.89.

The Crystal, Minn., native also won league crowns in both the 60m and 200m.

Mongoven remained perfect in the league in the high jump, repeating as league champion in the indoor high jump and claiming her third title overall (2007 outdoor). He best height this season has been 6-10 1/4 (2.09m).

Milwaukee is coming off its fifth-straight Horizon League Indoor Championship last week in Kent, Ohio. The rest of the Panthers will have two more weeks off before opening the outdoor season March 21-22 at the Spring Classic in Carbondale, Ill.
