Panthers Host UWM Panther Tune Up Friday At Klotsche

Only home meet of 2008 serves as final preparation for league meet

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Feb. 21, 2008) - With one week to prepare for the 2008 Horizon League Indoor Championships, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's track and field team hosts its only home meet of the season Friday at the Klotsche Center.

The UWM Panther Tune Up kicks off at 4 p.m. with field events. Track events are expected to get started at approximately 6:30 p.m. Milwaukee will welcome league rivals UIC, Loyola and Valparaiso for the meet, as well as Chicago State.

The Panthers are coming off the Iowa State Classic last weekend in Ames, Iowa. Senior Justin Bohler highlighted the meet with a school-record heptathlon performance and senior Darren Cole took fifth in thee triple jump.

Bohler accumulated 4,995 points on his way to a sixth-place showing in the event and surpassed his own school record of 4,894 set earlier this season. Cole, meanwhile, leapt a league-best 48-2 ½. Junior Adam Schleis also ran a time of 7.17 in the preliminaries of the 60m, the sixth-fastest time in school history.

Last season, UWM posted a 2-0 record at this meet, defeating Loyola and UIC in double dual scoring. Schleis and Jeremy Majors each broke school and Klotsche Center records to lead the Panthers.

Milwaukee is preparing for the upcoming league championships March 1-2 in Kent, Ohio. The Panthers are four-time defending indoor champs and are in good shape again this season. Sophomore Tyler Bucholz (200m, 400m) and Schleis (60mH, long jump) each pace the league in two events, while Bohler (heptathlon), Cole (triple jump), and sophomore Quinn Mongoven (high jump) also lead the league in events.
