Bucholz, Schleis Win Events At Redbird Classic
NORMAL, Ill. (May 3, 2008) - Junior Adam Schleis won the 110m hurdles and sophomore Tyler Bucholz won the 200m to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's track and field team at the Redbird Classic Saturday at Illinois State. The Redbird Classic was the final tune-up before the Panthers head to the Horizon League Championships May 8-9 in Youngstown, Ohio. Milwaukee is four-time defending outdoor champions and will be looking for a 10th-straight title overall. Schleis won the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.89, while junior Josh Zill was in third place of the event, crossing the line in 15.29. Meanwhile, Bucholz tied his league-leading, personal-best time of 21.39 in winning the 200m. Three more Panthers ran times in the event that would rank them among the top four in the league entering the week. Senior Lynn Koepke placed third in 22.17, just ahead of junior Patrick Casey in fourth in 22.18 and freshman Jared Foerch in fifth in 22.29. The fourth-best league time entering the week was 22.30, while Bucholz and sophomore Isaiah Adams (21.96) held the top two times. Sophomore Quinn Mongoven added a runner-up finish in the high jump and two Panthers were among the top five in the pole vault. Mongoven had a final height of 6-4 3/4 for second, while junior Sean Jaehnig was fourth in the pole vault with a height of 15-1. Junior Adam Podd cleared 14-7 1/4 for fifth.
Senior Larry Ehrhorn also took third in the shot put and freshman Cory Yttre was fourth in the 400m to round out Milwaukee's top-five finishers. Ehrhorn threw 49-7 3/4, while Yttre finished the 400m in 50.58. |
