CARBONDALE, Ill. (March 29, 2008) - Sophomore Tyler Bucholz kicked off his outdoor season as the indoor slate finished, as he broke the school 400m record to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's track and field team at the Spring Classic Saturday.

Bucholz ran a sub-48.00 time in the 400m for the third-straight meet including the indoor season, after becoming the first Panther ever to do so at the league indoor meet earlier this month.

UWM scored 89 points for fifth place at the six-team meet. Illinois took first with 205 points, while host Southern Illinois tallied 185.5 points for second.

Bucholz ran a time of 47.93 Saturday to take second at the meet and eclipse Jeremy Major's school record time of 48.09. Sophomore Isaiah Adams, the only other Milwaukee runner to eclipse 48 seconds, ran a time of 48.18 in the event for third. His time is fourth in school history.

Bucholz added a win in the 200m and ran with the second-place 4x100m relay alongside Adams. Bucholz finished the 200m in 21.65, the second-fastest time in school history. Adams also scored, taking sixth in 22.15. In the 4x100m, the pair was joined by senior Lynn Koepke and junior Adam Schleis for a time of 41.29, the second-best time in school history.

Milwaukee also got second-place finishes from seniors Darren Cole and Justin Bohler and sophomore Quinn Mongoven. Cole leapt 46-8 ¼ as runner-up in the triple jump, ahead of sophomore Josh Zill in fourth with a jump of 45-5 ¾. In the 100m hurdles, Bohler took second in 14.80, while Zill also scored in fifth (15.21). Mongoven cleared 6-6 ¾ in the high jump, equaling the best height on the day, but took second based on attempts.

The Panthers featured a pair of scorers in the pole vault, as juniors Sean Jaehnig and Adam Podd each cleared 14-1 ¼ to tie for fifth. Senior Larry Ehrhorn had a fourth-place finish in the shot put (50-6 ¾) to round out the top-five finishes on the day.

UWM continues the early portion of its outdoor season, heading to Eastern Illinois' Big Blue Classic next weekend in Charleston, Ill.
