Panthers Post 4-0 Record At UWM Panther Tune Up
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Feb. 22, 2008) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's track and field won seven events and defeated four teams in dual meet scoring in at the UWM Panther Tune Up Friday evening at the Klotsche Center. The Panthers defeated Chicago State, 80-37, and posted wins over league foes Loyola (76-42), Valparaiso (81-54) and UIC (75-54). Junior Adam Schleis won two events, including a school-record performance in the long jump. He leapt 23-10 ¾ to surpass the school mark of 23-6 ¾. He also won the 60m hurdles, running a time of 8.23 for top honors. Sophomore Josh Zill was second in the 60m hurdles in a personal-best 8.45, while he was also second in the triple jump with another personal best of 47-7 ¾. That tied in for fifth in school history. Sophomore Tyler Bucholz added a win and second-place finish on the night, He ran a time of 22.05 in winning the 200m. Junior Patrick Casey, who was third in the long jump (21-10 3/4), was runner-up in the event in a personal-best 22.59. In the 60m, Bucholz ran a personal-best 6.98 to take second, just ahead of senior Lynn Koepke in 7.11. Koepke's time moved him into a tie for fourth in school history. Sophomore Quinn Mongoven and junior Sean Jaehnig each won events, as did senior Larry Ehrhorn. Mongoven had a final height of 6-9 ¾ for top honors in the high jump, while Jaehnig cleared 15-1 to tie for first place in the pole vault.
Ehrhorn shined in the throwing events, winning the shot put and taking second in the weight throw. He threw a personal-best 51-6 ¼ to win the shot put and he threw 55-0 for runner-up honors in the weight throw. Zill, Casey and Koepke also ran with the first-place 4x400m relay, teaming with Koepke, Casey and freshman Andrew Manuel on a time of 3:25.17 for top honors. The UWM Panther Tune Up was Milwaukee's final preparation for the Horizon League Championships next weekend in Kent, Ohio. The Panthers will be looking win a fifth-straight league indoor titles. |
