LAST TIME IN THE POOL:
Senior David Adams won twice to lead the men to a 128.5-85.5 victory over Valparaiso Nov. 22. With the win, the Panthers move to 15-0 all-time against the Crusaders and also improve to 8-4 in dual meets on the year - their most dual victories since recording eight during the 1997-98 season. Adams paved the way, winning the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:12.79 while also topping the field in the 500 freestyle in 4:57.29. In addition to Adams' pair of wins, junior Ed Lichinsky, freshmen Kyle Trelka and Nathan Rahe and the 200 freestyle relay team all posted wins on the day.
Lichinsky came through with a win in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall in 55.47 for the win. Freshman Brady Huemann was right behind in second in 56.34. Trelka won the 200 IM in 2:00.90, leading a 1-2-3 Milwaukee finish in the race. Rahe was second (2:02.60) and fellow freshman Jordan Diel third in 2:02.60.
Rahe won the 100 butterfly, coming in at 54.37. Freshman Greg Wise was second, clocking in at 54.70, with Rahe getting the touch-out victory. The final victory came from the 200 free relay squad that closed out the meet in a victorious time of 1:28.11.
FIRST POLL IS RELEASED:
The first mid-major poll of the season was released by CollegeSwimming.com and Milwaukee enters at No. 22 with 198.55 points. The CSCAA/CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Division I rankings, produced since 2002, is an objective ranking system based on each team's best dual meet line-up. The U.S. Naval Academy leads the way with 223.93 points, with Wright State (No. 11) the only Horizon League school ahead of UWM on the list.
WINNING GETS CONTAGIOUS:
After downing Valpo, the team is now 8-4 in dual meets on the season. The eight wins marks the most since posting eight victories during the 1997-98 campaign.
YOUNG GUNS:
Youth is being served for Milwaukee this season, as several newcomers have already recorded individual victories on the year. The freshmen class has definitely been a solid contributor for UWM, accounting for nine individual victories already this season. Jordan Diel leads the way with three, Sam Keele and Kyle Trelka each have two and Evan Green and Nathan Rahe have each accounted for one.
SCHEDULE CHANGE:
The team announced a schedule change for later this season. The team was originally scheduled to swim at Green Bay January 31 with a 1 p.m. start time. That league dual meet has now been changed to February 7 at 3 p.m., still up in Green Bay.
UP NEXT:
Milwaukee is done swimming for the semester and does not return to action until January 23 of 2009. In the meantime, the team will head to Florida for its annual training trip from Jan. 6-15.
