MILWAUKEE - Lance Scadden from Sun Prairie, Wis., and Karl Winderl from Hartford, Wis., have both signed National Letters of Intent to enroll at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and compete for the men's swimming and diving team, head coach Dave Clark announced today.

Scadden, a distance swimmer from Sun Prairie High School, was a state finalist for Sun Prairie/Madison LaFollette in the 500 freestyle, finishing ninth, and the 100 backstroke during his junior season of high school. In addition, he has won 13 state championships in USA Swimming, and has qualified for the USA Zone team five times.

"Lance has had a great swimming background," Clark said. "He has been one of the best swimmers in the state since he was an age group swimmer. He is an excellent student-athlete. The 500 free and the 100 back double in the high school state meet is very difficult, and he has handled it consistently well."

Winderl, another distance swimmer, from Hartford Union High School, finished 21st in the 500 freestyle last spring as a junior, and also finished 22nd in the same event as a freshman.

"Karl is an extremely solid student-athlete," Clark said. "With his excellent club background and work ethic, he has the ability to improve steadily and rapidly. He will make an impact on our program and on the league."

The Panthers are in the midle of the 2002-03 season, and currently have a 3-3 dual meet record with three dual meets remaining in the spring semester. UWM claimed the Midwestern Collegiate Conference (now Horizon League) title in the 2000 season, and look to be in the hunt for their second title in 2003. The Panthers also excel in the classroom, having been named Academic All-American during both the fall and spring semesters last season.
