MILWAUKEE - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee head men's swimming coach Erica Janssen has announced the signing of two high school seniors to National Letters of Intent today.

Michael Brady of Bartlett, Ill, and Brian Verink of Cedar Falls, Iowa, have been added during the early signing period by Milwaukee and will compete for the UWM men's swimming team next season.

Brady is the top sprinter for his Bartlett High School squad, missing the state cut in the 50 freestyle last season by eight-hundredths of a second. He is a team captain who will earn his fourth letter this season. A year ago, he finished in the top three in the highly-competitive Upstate Eight Conference meet in both the 50 and 100 free and took fourth in both races at sectionals. He will leave as the school-record holder in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle.

"Mike will add quality depth to our sprint group," Janssen said. "He is an up-and-coming swimmer who we feel will flourish with the training he will get at UWM."

Verink is the 2008 Iowa state champion in the 500 freestyle and a senior at Cedar Falls High School. In addition to the state title as a junior, he also swam at state with the 200 medley and 400 free relay teams and took sixth in the 200 IM. The school-record holder in the 500 free has earned All-America consideration in the event and helped his squad win a district championship in 2008.

"Brian will be one of our go-to guys in the distance events," Janssen said. "Finding a great distance swimmer was a real priority for us and we couldn't be happier that Brian will be a Panther next season. I feel his best years are definitely ahead of him."
