Senior Chase Gravengood

Gravengood Qualifies For 2008 USA Olympic Swimming Team Trials

Will join Baseheart at trials in July

May 21, 2008

MILWAUKEE - Senior Chase Gravengood of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming team swam an Olympic Team Trials qualifying time of 55.04 in the 100 butterfly at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer over the weekend.

Gravengood had narrowly missed the qualifying time at another series of time trials at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center following the Horizon League Conference meet earlier this spring.

"I am extremely excited for Chase and this great accomplishment," UWM head coach Dave Griffore said. "He now gets to swim at one of the biggest meets in the country and it only happens once every four years. Chase certainly deserves this great opportunity and it caps off an incredible swimming career"

Gravengood is the second Panther to make the meet. Former Milwaukee standout Josh Baseheart achieved the necessary qualifying time in the spring of 2007 in his specialities - the 50 and 100 freestyle events.

The pair will race in Omaha, Neb., in early July at the USA Olympic Swimming Team Trials for the Schroeder YMCA Swim Team.
