MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's swimming and diving teams were both named Academic All-American by the College Swim Coaches Association of America for the fall 2002 semester. This marks the 28th-consecutive semester the women's team has received national recognition, while the men's team was honored for the third-straight semester.

The women's team complied a cumulative grade point average of 3.098 for the fall semester, placing them ahead of schools such as Cal-Berkeley, Texas Christian University and the University of Georgia.

"The consistant academic success of our women's team has become the cornerstone of our swimming and diving program," head coach Dave Clark said. "Our success in the classroom provides the base for our athletic achievements."

The men's team, meanwhile, was named for the third-straight semester with a grade point average of 2.982. That mark places UWM ahead of Eastern Michigan University, Southern Illinois University, the Ohio State University and the United States Military Academy.

"The men's program is building itself into one of the premier academic programs in the country," Clark said. "With our consistency, we are becoming nationally competitive both in the classroom and in the pool."

The women's team finished third out of seven teams at the Horizon League Championships on Feb. 26-Mar. 1, totalling 654 points. The men's team, meanwhile, was fourth of six at the league meet, finishing with 511 points.
