Belting Earns Second League Award In Three Weeks
Jan. 29, 2003 MILWAUKEE - Sophomore Michael Belting was named Horizon League Athlete of the Week after picking up a pair of individual wins at the Bill Ritter Invitational last weekend, the league office announced Tuesday. This is the second time this season Belting has won the league honor, previously being named on Jan. 14 for his performance at the Time Trial 100s in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Belting picked up three wins in five events including relays, as he won the 500 freestyle in 4:46.09, despite stopping to fix his goggles, which had fallen off. He was also victorious in the 1,650 freestyle (16:25.11), breaking the old pool record by more than nine seconds. In addition, Belting finished third in the 200 freestyle (1:46.12) and was part of the winning 800 freestyle relay team and fifth-place 400 freestyle relay team.
The Panthers return to the pool for a dual meet against Western Illinois at noon Saturday at the Klotsche Center Pool.
