Men's Swimmers Second At Ed Kennedy Relays
Dec. 31, 2002 FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming and diving team finished second of three teams at the 67th annual Ed Kennedy Relays in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Tuesday morning. Washington captured the men's crown with 271 points, followed by UWM's 226 and Delaware's 223. Washington, the 25th-ranked team in the country in the latest College Swim Coaches Association of America rankings, won first place in every relay event. The Panthers collected one second-place finish, with the team of Jason Procto, Justin O'Keefe and Joe Vermeulen taking silver honors in the 150 meter backstroke relay. The other four relay teams all finished third out of three teams. Individually, the Panthers fared well, with Peter Clark and Michael Belting taking second and third in the 200 meter freestyle. Clark finished in 2:03.74, while Belting's time was 2:04.93. Josh Baseheart also collected a second-place finish in the 50 meter freestyle with a time of 25.08.
The Panthers will next compete at the Time Trial 100s on Jan. 6, 2003, in Fort Lauderdale. UWM's Florida training trip continues through Jan. 10.
