Panthers Display Strong Showing at UIC Diving Invitational

CHICAGO, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers swimming and diving teams had a strong showing at the UIC Diving Invitational. The UWM women tallied a first place finish with 84 points while the men notched a second place finish, scoring 104 points.

The Panther men rebounded from a tough competition on Friday night at home against Northwestern, finishing second in the diving competition. Finishing the highest for UWM was sophomore Jeff Jasinowski and freshman Cory Kupfer. Jasinowksi, a former North Shore Conference swimmer from Nicolet High School, finished third in the 1-meter competition, earning a score of 216.55.

Cory Kupfer, another former NSC swimmer, finished the highest of the Panthers in the 3-meter competition, totalling a score of 216.75. Jasinowski followed behind Kupfer with a score of 214.05.

Starring for the women with the highest finishes were Hannah Burgard and Crystal Szymanski. Burgard came through with a team-high fourth place finish in the 3-meter competition with a score of 226.75. Burgard followed up her performance with a seventh place finish in the 1-meter competition.

Crystal Szymanski finished the highest for the Panthers in the 1-meter, finishing in sixth place with a score 203.15. The total points tallied by the Hales Corner native was a personal best.

"Overall, I was happy to see that our divers did very well." UWM head coach Dave Clark said. "It's nice to see the team come away with high finishes because it builds confidence."

The Panthers will ride that confidence all the way to Wheaton, Ill. where they will engage in a meet held at Wheaton College on Friday, October 31. Competition is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
