Men's Team Moves Up To Fourth
Feb. 28, 2003 CLEVELAND - Josh Baseheart collected his second individual win and second league record in as many days as the Panthers moved up a spot in the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships Friday in Cleveland. Baseheart won the 200 freestyle in a league-best time of 1:39.42, giving him the league mark in all three of the sprint freestyle events. Kyle Fyock had the other top finish of the day for the Panthers, as he placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke. Fyock finished in 58.22. Justin O'Keefe added an eighth-place finish in the 400 individual medley in 4:17.87, while Rob Vergeer and Jason Procto combined to give UWM a pair of placers in the 100 butterfly. Vergeer wound up sixth in 50.59, while Procto was eighth in 50.95. Michael Belting chipped in with an eighth-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 1:43.24. The men's 800 freestyle relay also added a second place finish, with the team of Baseheart, Peter Clark, Belting and Procto finishing in a school-record time of 6:47.27. UWM moved into fourth place on the day with a total of 342 points. Wright State is the leader with 472 points, with Green Bay 30 points behind them. Cleveland State is third with 431 points, while UIC is fifth with 332 points. Butler is in sixth place with a total of 100 points.
The championship concludes tomorrow with the preliminary heats beginning at 10:30 a.m. EST. The finals will be held at 6 p.m. EST.
