UWM Men Take Second

MILWAUKEE - Josh Baseheart had a pair of wins, while Michael Belting set a new Klotsche Center Pool record in the men's mile as the Panthers took second place in the Bill Ritter Invitational Saturday evening. Jason Procto added a win and combined with Belting, Baseheart and Peter Clark to win the men's 800 freestyle relay Saturday afternoon. UW-Green Bay won the men's title, amassing 1103.50 points. Milwaukee had 932 for second place, followed by UIC with 830.50 points in third. Butler had 178 points to edge out Marquette's 120 for fourth place. Baseheart was first in the 100 and 200 freestyle, finishing the 100 in 46.86 in the evening session. He captured first place in the 200 free in the morning, finishing in 1:44.67. Belting, meanwhile, broke David Faust's pool record in the men's mile, finishing in 16:25.11, more than eight seconds ahead of the old mark. Belting also collected a second place finish in the 200 freestyle, finishing in 1:46.29. Clark was fourth in the event in 1:46.60. Procto had the other individual win, claiming first in the 200 backstroke in 1:54.16, while Justin O'Keefe was third in 1:59.82 and Ryan Frohmader was fourth in 2:00.06.
In other morning session results, Frohmader led four Panthers to top eight finishes in the 400 individual medley, finishing fourth in 4:21.90. O'Keefe was fifth in 4:25.82, followed by Matt Luba in seventh in 4:40.16 and Joe Vermeulen in eighth in 4:44.85. Procto and John Batty finished second and fourth in the 100 backstroke, with Procto's time of 53.36 and Batty's in 56.30. Rob Vergeer was fourth in the 100 butterfly in 52.72, while Tim Watt was eighth in 54.06. In the 100 breaststroke, Kyle Fyock was fifth in 1:01.41 and Ben Creydt was eighth in 1:03.48.
The men's 800 freestyle relay team of Belting, Procto, Clark and Baseheart won in 7:02.21, while the B relay team of Frohmader, Fyock, Batty and Adam Steffes was fourth in 7:24.59. The 200 medley relay team of Procto, Nick Bowers, Vergeer and Fyock was third in 1:39.00, with the B relay of Batty, Mac Carlson, Clark and Watt in fifth in 1:40.95. In the evening session, Watt finished fourth in the 100 freestyle in 48.70, followed by Batty in eighth in 49.35. Fyock was third in the 100 breaststroke in 2:12.43, and was joined by Carlson in eighth in 2:21.25. In the 200 butterfly, Vergeer added a third place finish in 2:01.97, with O'Keefe in eighth in 2:04.96. Following Belting in the mile was Joe Vermeulen in fifth in 17:35.73, Matt Luba in seventh in 17:37.15 and Peter Clark in eighth in 17:42.14. The men's 400 freestyle relay team of Watt, Frohmader, Fyock and Baseheart was second in 3:11.10, with the B team of Steffes, Batty, Belting and Creydt finishing fifth in 3:19.46. The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they host Western Illinois in a dual meet at noon at the Klotsche Center Pool. |
