MILWAUKEE - The UWM men's swimming and diving team is in third place after the first seven events of the Bill Ritter Invitational Friday afternoon at the Klotsche Center Pool. The Panthers have 273 points, 90 points behind first-place UW-Green Bay.

UWGB currently sits first with 363 points, followed by UIC with 361 points. Following Milwaukee in fourth place is Butler with 75 points and Marquette with 49 points.

Michael Belting collected first place in the 500 freestyle to lead the Panthers on the day. Belting, who stopped early in the race to fix his goggles which had fallen off, caught up to the rest of the field by the 300 yard mark and took the lead for good. He finished with a time of 4:46.09. Peter Clark used a strong finish to wind up third in the same event in 4:51.38.

Josh Baseheart was second in the 50 freestyle, finishing in 21.44, with teammate John Batty in eighth in 22.67. In the 200 individual medley, Ryan Frohmader was sixth in 2:00.39, followed by Kyle Fyock in seventh in 2:02.03. Jeff Jasinowski placed in the top four in each of the diving events, winding up third on 1m with 203.80 points and fourth on 3m with 300.10 points.

The Panthers also got second place in both the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay. The team of Jason Procto, Tim Watt, Ryan Frohmader and Josh Baseheart finished the 200 free relay in 1:28.05, while the B relay of John Batty, Ben Creydt, Adam Steffes and Rob Vergeer was fifth in 1:29.84. In the 400 medley relay, Procto, Fyock, Vergeer and Baseheart finished second in 3:31.36, while the B relay team of Frohmader, Nick Bowers, Clark and Watt was sixth in 3:42.15.

 

 

The meet continues with the third session Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in the Klotsche Center Pool, and concludes with the fourth session Saturday afternoon, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
