Bode Takes Part In United Soccer League Player Showcase

Senior looking to continue career at professional level

Dec. 21, 2007

MILWAUKEE - Senior Steve Bode of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's soccer team recently took part in the United Soccer League Men's Player Showcase, held in Tampa, Fla., earlier this month.

The three-day initiative by the USL is in its second year and is an invitation-only opportunity for players to earn a chance to land a professional contract in Major League Soccer, the USL First Division and the USL Second Division.

"I really enjoyed the opportunity to play and compete for a contract while I was down there," Bode said. "The event was very well run and provided exposure for a lot of players trying to make it professionally."

Bode joined around 90 other players at the event, giving him a chance to impress coaches and scouts from numerous professional clubs in North America and around the world with his play over the three days.

"I particularly enjoyed playing along side players that are in the same boat as me, as far as going after their dream to play professional soccer," Bode said. "It made for an exciting and competitive atmosphere."

Bode was a three-time All-Horizon League selection, including First Team honors in both 2007 and 2005. The three-year team captain also earned numerous academic honors, including Third Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America and All-Region NSCAA Scholar Athlete accolades.
