Jallow Earns Second National Academic Honor

Junior named third-team Scholar All-America

Dec. 17, 2003

MILWAUKEE - With semester finals going on at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, there is no better time to be honored for one's academic achievments. Now, for the second time this season, UWM men's soccer player Antou Jallow received an academic honor as he was named a Third-Team Scholar All-America recepient by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and adidas here Wednesday (Dec. 17). The junior was one of 33 players honored as the awards covered all three NCAA Divisions.

"This is a huge honor not only for Antou but for the team, the athletic department and for the university," UWM head coach Louis Bennett said. "To have a player selected as a Scholar All-American lends credence to the numbers Antou has put up not only on the field but in the classroom as well."

Jallow, a marketing major at UWM, boasts a 3.83 grade point average as a first semester junior. The Uppsala, Sweden-native was earlier named a Division I Second-Team Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Jallow was the only Horizon League player to be named on the squad and one of 22 Division I players to earn NSCAA Scholar All-America mention.

The two-time First-Team All-Horizon League performer has etched his name all over the Milwaukee record books after just three years on campus. Jallow is currently third all-time with 42 goals scored while his 92 points are good for fourth in UWM annals. The junior also holds two single-season records thanks to his 24 goals and 53 points in 2002.

"This type of award speaks volumes about the type of players we have here at UWM," noted Bennett. "Antou's actions truly epitomize what being a student-athlete is all about. He has really made the most of his potential in all aspects of life."

UWM will return 18 letterwinners and eight starters from the 2003 squad that finished 16-6-1 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season.
