They reappeared in the rankings after making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the fifth-straight season last month. The Panthers 2005 campaign ended when they fell to then-No. 1 New Mexico on penalty kicks after playing to a 2-2 tie Nov. 22. The Lobos finished as the national runner-up, falling 1-0 to Maryland in the championship. UWM can now boast finishing in the Top 25 for two-straight years and three of the last four. The Panthers closed 2004 ranked No. 24 after going 14-5-3. They finished No. 17 in 2002 after a 19-2-1 campaign. The NSCAA also announced their annual Team Academic Awards on Wednesday, recognizing the Panthers for their work in the classroom as well. Milwaukee joined league member Loyola as two of only 13 NCAA Division I schools to have both their men's and women's teams receive the prestigious award. A total of 65 men's teams and 246 women's teams were recognized, maintaining composite grade-point averages of 3.00 or higher for the academic year, with all players on the roster figuring into the final tabulations.
