Jallow Earns Highest Academic HonorDec. 8, 2003 MILWAUKEE - Antou Jallow's trophy case just got more crowded. The highly decorated forward for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's soccer team recently received one of the highest possible honors as he was named a Second-Team Academic All-American recently by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Jallow joins Gerard Lagos (1990) in beoming only the second UWM soccer player to receive Academic All-America accolades. "When you are talking about student-athletes you are talking about the best of the best in college soccer and Antou is definitely one of those," UWM head coach Louis Bennett said. "The Academic All-American epitomizes some of the best student-athletes in the country and it says a lot for our program to have a member of that team." Jallow, who was named Third-Team All-America by the NSCAA last season, owns a 3.83 grade point average in marketing at UWM. The striker finished the 2003 season second on the team in goals and scoring with 10 goals and 23 points. A two-time, First-Team All-Horizon League performer, Jallow was the only Horizon League performer named on any of the three CoSIDA Academic All-America squads. "We are very proud of Antou and this acheivement. This is just huge," Bennett added. "The program was built on the foundation of strong academic success and success on the field as well. It is nice to have your players and your program be recognized with these kinds of accolades." The Uppsala, Sweden native has etched his name all over the Milwaukee record books after just three years on campus. Jallow is currently third all-time with 42 goals scored while his 92 points are good for fourth in UWM annals. The junior also holds two single-season records thanks to his 24 goals and 53 points in 2002.
UWM will return 18 letterwinners and eight starters from the 2003 squad that finished 16-6-1 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season.
