UWM Draws Home Match In NCAA Tournament

Panthers host Western Michigan Saturday

Nov. 17, 2003

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's soccer team will face Western Michigan University in a first round NCAA Tournament match Saturday at noon at Engelmann Field. UWM was one of 16 teams to receive first round home games as the full 48-team bracket was announced by the NCAA Monday (Nov. 17) afternoon.

"It is always nice in the world of the NCAA soccer to be recognized and rewarded for your play," UWM head coach Louis Bennett said. "It is also great that we were rewarded with a home game for the second straight year. I have never had a coach come here who hasn't commented about how great the soccer environment is at Engelmann Field. I would expect it to be a great place again on Saturday."

The Panthers (15-5-1), automatic qualifiers from the Horizon League, are in the NCAA Tournament for the third-consecutive year. They will host the Broncos (12-6-2), the automatic entries from the Mid-American Conference. The winner will advance to a second-round match with Notre Dame on Wednesday, Nov. 26. The second-round game at South Bend, Ind., is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. Central time.

Tickets for Saturday's match are $8 for adults and $5 for students.

Last season, UWM beat Oakland (Mich.) in a first round NCAA Tournament match at Engelmann Field in front of 1,864 fans. The Panthers then fell to Creighton in the second round. Milwaukee is 10-1 all-time in the postseason at Engelmann Field.
