Tournament Brackets Set For Regular-Season League Champion Panthers

MILWAUKEE -- The times and seeds have been finalized for the 2001 Horizon League Men's and Women's Soccer Tournament, the league office announced today. The regular-season champion UWM men's soccer team will host a quarterfinal match on Nov. 10, while the regular-season champion UWM women's soccer team receive a first-round bye and travel to Detroit, Mich., for the tournament held Nov. 8-11. For the men's tournament, top-seeded UWM (16-3, 7-0 Horizon) will host No. 8 Cleveland State in a quarterfinal match on Sat., Nov. 10, 12 p.m. at Engelmann Field. The top four seeds in the men's tournament host the quarterfinals, while the highest remaining seed following that round will host the semifinals and championship the next weekend. In other quarterfinal play on Nov. 10, No. 4 Wright State (11-6-1, 4-3) will host #5 Green Bay (4-9-3, 2-3-2) in game two, No. 3 UIC (10-5-1, 4-2-1) will host No. 6 Loyola (6-9-2, 3-4) in game three and No. 2 Butler (8-8, 5-2) will host No. 7 Detroit (7-7-4, 1-5-1) in game four. The times of those games are yet to be announced. A win over Cleveland State would allow UWM to play the winner of game two in the semifinals on Nov. 16. The winner of game three will play the winner of game four in the other semifinal matchup on Nov. 16. The championship game will be played on Nov. 17. For the women's tournament, top-seeded UWM (13-4, 6-0 Horizon) will play the winner of the quarterfinal game between No. 4 Detroit (7-10, 3-3) and No. 5 Green Bay (4-11, 3-3) in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m. cst. The Detroit vs.Green Bay game will be played on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m. cst.
The other two quarterfinal games on Nov. 8 at feature No. 2 Butler (11-6, 4-2) vs. No. 7 Youngstown State (1-18, 0-6) in game one and No. 3 Wright State (9-7, 3-3) vs. No. 6 Loyola (6-11-1, 2-4) in game two, with both beginning at 10 a.m. cst. The winner of game one will play the winner of game two on Friday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. cst. The championship will be played on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. cst.
