UWM Men (10-8-1) End Regular Season With A Tie and A Win In Conference Play
Oct. 30, 2000 MILWAUKEE-The UWM men's soccer team finished their regular season with a tie and a win in MCC match-up last week. They end up in fourth place of the MCC standings with a 4-2-1 record, and are 10-8-1 overall. On Wednesday, the Panthers were forced to settle for the 1-1 draw after completely dominating UW-Green Bay in the attack as they outshot the Phoenix, 39-15. Down 1-0 in the second half, UWM got a lift from defender Chad Dombrowski (West Allis, Wis./Hale) when he scored the equalizer on a diving header in the 85th minute. Posing an unfamiliar starting lineup, the UWM men's soccer team accomplished more than one goal in their 1-0 victory over Cleveland State on Saturday night in Ohio. The Panthers were able to rest several key starters and still capture a victory in conference match-up as they head into Tuesday's quarterfinal game of the MCC tournament. Junior forward Ryan Seymour (Portage, Mich./Northern) scored the winning goal in the 81st minute, finishing near post off assists from senior Blake Bostwick (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington) and freshman Bobby Lish (Shoreview, Minn./Moundsview). PANTHERS TO HOST QUARTERFINALS--UWM ended its regular season as the fourth seed in MCC standings, and will host fifth-seeded Butler in a MCC tournament quarterfinal on Tuesday, October 31st, at 1 p.m. The top four seeds host the quarterfinals of the MCC tournament on Tuesday, while the top remaining seed will host the semifinals and championship on Nov. 4-5th. MEETING BUTLER-The Panthers meet Butler again for the second time this month, after defeating the Bulldogs, 4-1, on October 13th at Engelmann Field. Butler enters the tournament quarterfinal with a 3-4 MCC record and are 6-12 overall. The Bulldogs come to UWM with two losses on the weekend, losing to William & Mary on Friday, 2-5, and St. John's on Sunday, 0-4. Freshman forward Michael Mariscalco leads the team in scoring with 10 goals and five assists for 25 points on the season. Freshman forward/midfielder Nick Pantazi is a close second, recording 24 points with 10 goals and four assists. UWM IN MCC STATS--The Panthers rank second in the MCC in shots (230, 13.53/game) and points (95, 5/game), and rank third in goals (33, 1.74/game) and assists (29, 1.53/game).
Individually, Seymour ranks third in shots (58), is tied for fifth in points (21), and is tied for sixth in goals (8). He and teammate Kyle Lance (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) are tied for seventh in assists (5). Seymour's four assists recorded on September 3rd's game against Northwestern continue to be a MCC season record.
