Panthers Play To A Draw With Wave United

UWM faces two former stars

April 25, 2003

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's soccer team ran into a pair of familiar faces in an exhibition versus the Milwaukee Wave United of the professional "A" League here Thursday (Apr. 24). The Panthers played to a scoreless draw in a spirited battle versus the United, whose lineup included former UWM standouts Chris Dadaian and Chad Dombrowski.

"It was a very frisky, and competitive game versus the Wave United," UWM head coach Louis Bennett said. "It had some glimpses of good soccer in the second half while there was also some flashes of very combative soccer. However, it was good for us to keep our focus in a tight game and not make it a game of mistakes."

The first half of the game featured strong defenses on both sides. UWM controlled a large portion of the play yet neither team could create any legitimate scoring chances. In the game's second stanza, played opened up quite a bit, especially late in the half. Kyle Zenoni missed a scoring chance in the second half before Dadaian, playing for the United, snuffed out a 5-yard B.J. Blake volley at the far post. All-American Antou Jallow, who is coming off surgery for an athletic related hernia, played the final 15 minutes of the game and narrowly missed two breakaway opportunities.

"The Wave have a lot of good players and it was nice to see Chad and Chris play so well," noted Bennett. "They are trying to find their system right now just as we are. We are expirementing with a few things and I think things are taking shape."

Dadaian and Dombrowski both excelled in their stints with the Wave and have a fine chance to make the team. In fact, Dombrowski is expected to sign an amateur contract with the Wave United for next season while finishing up his course work next year. Dadaian is on track to graduate from UWM in May.
