Milwaukee - The UWM men's soccer team continued to come together in spring training, posting two shutouts this past weekend at host Marquette's Valley Fields on Saturday. The Panthers handled Northwestern, 2-0, before defeating DePaul, 3-0, in tournament games played with 30-minute halves. UWM fell in its final game of the day against Valparasio, 2-1.

Against the Wildcats, junior goalkeeper Brad Swenby recorded the shutout while sophomore forwards Bobby Lish and Cliff Ellsworth scored goals. Lish netted Northwestern's goalkeeper from six yards out for the gamewinner, while Ellsworth, a transfer this semester from Indiana, rebounded Evan Richardson's shot to score from three yards out.

Junior goalkeeper Chris Dadaian helped keep DePaul scoreless while Antou Jallow, Lish and Tighe Dombrowski finished past the Blue Demons. Jallow scored the gamewinner unassisted when he stripped a defender in DePaul's goal box and shot low past the goalkeeper from six yards out. UWM's second goal came on a dead ball situation, with Lish finishing near post off an assist from Ellsworth. Dombrowski, who helped set up the second goal, scored a spectacular goal off a cross from Daniel Saavedra. Dombrowski received the ball on his thigh just outside of the 18-yard box and then finished a volley over the goalkeeper.

Freshman goalkeeper Kirk Thode made his debut for the Panthers against Valparaiso in the 2-1 loss. Richardson converted a penalty kick to take the 1-0 lead after Lish was taken down from behind on a breakaway. The Crusaders scored two goals to stun UWM and take the victory.

The Panthers travel to Minnesota on Friday to scrimmage the Minnesota Thunder, the professional USL outdoor team. UWM then travels to Green Bay, Wis., to take part in UW-Green Bay's tournament against UW-Whitewater, Marquette and a Wisconsin Olympic Development team.
