Getting To Know: Bob Spielmann

April 6, 2006

New UWM associate soccer coach Bob Spielmann took some time recently to respond to a question-and-answer session. Here are his responses:

How has your transition to UW-Milwaukee been going?

"The transition couldn't be any better. Coach [Jon] Coleman and Coach [Chris] Dadaian and the rest of the staff at UWM have been very helpful in making sure I feel very comfortable."

What does coming to a Top-25 program mean to you?

"It is very exciting and it will be a challenge that I feel that I'm up to ... to continue and maintain the excellency and strong tradition the UW-M soccer program has nationally."

What are your goals before the 2006 season starts?

"A - To provide as much support for Coach Coleman as possible. B - to help develop the student athlete not only on the field but off the field as well. C - Win the Horizon League. D - Get past the second round of the NCAA tournament and win the National Championship."

What do you see as the biggest challenges for the Panthers this upcoming season?

"The transition of the coaching staff for the players would be the biggest challenge. Change is often difficult for anyone so the coaching staff would need to make sure we communicate properly with the players and guide them to be the best possible student athlete they can become."

What are the strenghths that you bring to the program?

"My experience in the game of soccer is a big strength ... I have 27 years of coaching experience at various levels from youth to professional. Recognizing talent and where to put them on the field is also a strong asset of mine as well."

What does UWM soccer mean to you?

"Panther soccer means PASSION, the great tradition it has it one of the biggest reasons that I enjoy being here. I'm really proud to say I'm a PANTHER!"
