UWM Men's Soccer Competes Goes Unbeaten at ParksideApril 5, 2004 KENOSHA, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's soccer team continued its impressive spring campaign thanks to a tie and a victory here this weekend (April 4). The Panthers opened play with a 1-1 tie versus Loyola University before blanking the host Rangers of University of Wisconsin-Parkside 3-0. Fellow Horizon League foe Loyola went up 1-0 on UWM in the first half when Dino Melitas scored on Panther keeper Eric Mickschl. The two teams traded opportunities the rest of the half but Loyola took the 1-0 lead into the break. Things remained the same through much of the second half before UWM scored the equalizer. Sophomore Neil Dombrowski tied the game when he hammered home a free kick from 25 yards out to even the score. Neither team could find the net the remainder of the way as the game ended in a tie. The Panthers controlled play early and often versus Division II UW-Parkside en route to the 3-0 win. Freshman Steve Sperl scored the eventual game-winner in the first half with a left footed touch from a Billy Meier pass. Dale Weiler scored the second goal of the game when he drilled a 22-yard shot to the near post. Milwaukee continued to pressure in the second half and redshirt freshman Ken Ogorzalek tallied the final marker when he put home a left footed touch off of a goalkeeper miscue.
Milwaukee will enjoy two weeks off before returning to spring play April 17. The Panthers will head down to Valley Fields for contests versus UW-Oshkosh, Northwestern, and Marquette. UWM's first game is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
