Two Men's Soccer Players Selected In Drafts
Feb. 7, 2000 MILWAUKEE - Two UWM seniors have been drafted by professional soccer leagues. Senior forward Joe Bernstein (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) was drafted on Sunday in the second round by the Milwaukee Rampage of the A-League. He was the 48th overall selection. As a junior at UWM, Bernstein tied for the team lead in goals and ranked second on the team in points. This season, he scored both game winning goals in an overtime win against Wisconsin.
Last month, senior forward Tony Colvin (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) went in the second round of the NPSL draft, picked 38th overall by the Milwaukee Wave. He was a five-year player for the Panthers and broke loose with 27 points in 1997. This season, Colvin led the team with 19 points and finished his collegiate career ranked sixth at UWM in career assists with 22. As a senior, he was named MVP of the Panther Invitational, MCC Player of the Week, UWM Athlete of the Month, and was named to the Soccer America team of the week. He was a three-time MCC second team selection.
