MILWAUKEE - Rain and an unfamiliar artificial turf surface couldn't stop the UWM men's soccer team, but Tulsa did, as it handed the Panthers a 1-0 loss on the road Saturday.

The Golden Hurricanes scored the game's lone goal in the 53rd minute when Eric Fenstermacher headed home a cross from Robbie Aristodemo. Aristodemo was named the MVP of 1997 UWM Panther Invitational.

"We didn't give up then. We regrouped then and for the last 20 minutes or so, we had some dangerous scoring opportunities and kept up the pressure."

The most dangerous scoring opportunity came in the final minutes when a diving header by Tony Colvin (New Berlin, Wis.-Eisenhower) beat the Tulsa goalkeeper. But Colvin was called offsides on the play.

Ryan Seymour (Portage, Mich.-Northern) nearly tied the game, but his shot skipped off the turf and bounced harmlessly off the post.

"We need to focus on the upcoming games. We have five games left, and four are against MCC opponents, so we need to move on and take care of the business at hand."

UWM plays host to Loyola on Oct. 21. Gametime is 3:00 p.m. at Engelmann. This weekend, the Panthers play at Cleveland State (Fri., at 6:00 p.m.) and Akron (Sun., 1:00 p.m.).
