Men's Soccer Downs Detroit for First MCC Win

MILWAUKEE - The UWM men's soccer team broke out of a five-game scoring slump when they posted a 3-2 win at Detroit on Sunday, Oct. 11. The win marked UWM's first conference victory of the season.

UWM got on the board in the 29th minute when freshman Ryan Seymour (Portage, Mich.-Northern) tapped in a ball misplayed by Detroit goalkeeper Jim Grewe.

With the score tied, 1-1, in the second half, UWM scored two straight goals. Junior Joe Bernstein (Cedarburg, Wis.-Cedarburg) took a cross from Blake Bostwick (Port Washington, Wis.-Port Washington) and tapped it into the goal in the 70th minute. In the 85th minute, freshman Robin Gohsman (Hartland, Wis.-Arrowhead) scored his first collegiate goal on an assist from UWM's leading scorer Tony Colvin (New Berlin, Wis.-Eisenhower).

Detroit added a late goal in the 87th minute. Both of Detroit's goals were scored by Jorge Ferreira.

Next up for the Panthers is Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane is 6-4-1 this season. Robbie Aristodemo, a junior for Tulsa, was named the 1997 Panther Invitational MVP as the Golden Hurricane won the tournament. Tulsa posted a 1-0 win over UWM in the tournament.
