CHICAGO-- Kevin Roethe's goal in the 16th minute gave No. 19 UWM (11-2, 3-0 Horizon) an early lead as it went on to defeat Loyola, 2-1, Friday night at Loyola Soccer Park.

Roethe scored on a header from 10 yards out after defender Chad Dombrowski headed it from the far post off a cross. UWM's second goal came on a Loyola own goal in the 48th minute when Ryan Seymour challenged a cross sent in by Marc Pehowski. Seymour got a touch on the ball, but a Loyola defender put it in to give Milwaukee the 2-0 lead.

"Considering all the injuries and the reshuffling of the players we do have, this is a good result," UWM coach Louis Bennett said. "We've won five straight now, with our last four coming on the road at difficult places. I'm very happy about the way we handled ourselves in testing situations."

Though UWM controlled most of the game, the Panthers let down in the final minutes of play to allow Loyola a goal in the 86th minute. Joey Randesi scored off a free kick from 20 yards out to trail UWM, 2-1, to the end.

"We can't let issues like the way we played in the last 10 minutes cloud the end result. A 2-1 victory is enough to be happy about," Bennett said.

UWM outshot Loyola, 11-7, while Milwaukee junior goalkeeper Chris Dadaian recorded three saves in his eight start of the season.
