McCallum, Boga Set To Join Panther Program In 2009-10
Dec. 1, 2008
MILWAUKEE - Ja'Rob McCallum of Marion, Ind., and Lonnie Boga of Florissant, Mo., have both signed letters of intent to play men's basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. McCallum, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound guard, helped Marion High School reach the Indiana Class 4A state championship game last spring. His team lost to Brownsburg, 40-39, on a buzzer-beating shot. Marion finished 24-5 last season and McCallum averaged nearly 10 points and four assists as a junior. McCallum's uncle is new Detroit head coach Ray McCallum. He was considering Detroit along with Drake and Rice before selecting UWM. Boga, a 6-2, 200-pound guard, is a multi-sport standout who has earned all-St. Louis area honors in football while competing as a sprinter in track at McCluer High School. He averaged 18.8 points and 9.5 rebounds per game as a junior, making better than 36 percent of his three-point attempts. He also averaged 16.1 points per game as a sophomore and 10.6 points per contest as a freshman. McCluer, which is coached by former Saint Louis University standout Erwin Claggett, is expected to be one of the top teams in Missouri this season, with Boga one of three top scorers returning to the team. He also had interest from Missouri State and Illinois State, among others. UWM head coach Rob Jeter is thrilled to have both players joining the Milwaukee basketball program. "Both Ja'Rob and Lonnie are very skilled basketball players," Jeter said. "When you look at some of the numbers they put up in a variety of categories, they are `stat-stuffers' as the commentators like to say. They both shoot the ball well, they rebound well and they are very smart basketball players. We have been trying to increase the skill level of the players we are bringing in over the last few years, and these two young men fit that bill perfectly."
